COMpóst Saturday Exhibitions!

It is time for a new type of gallery- a gallery for artists by artists! In this world that is consuming and changing so fast, we must empower artists to keep refreshing art. Art is not stagnant, it is constantly transforming as are we; so NOR.FOLKS.NYC gallery is launching Project “COMpóst,” which offers exhibition space to 50 people every Saturday. But we give so much more! We give the space to inspire, create, collaborate, trade, sell, give and live in this thriving community. This is a space for movement so there will be constantly different people, themes, mediums, and worlds. Bring your friends and friends of friends, and we will bring ours! This weekly event at the gallery provides space for artists and the public to meet without having to whore oneself through the middleman galleries. This is a natural space for you! You create the people, art, and community!
The gallery's doors will be open all day Saturday to exhibit and sell artwork (ARTIST KEEPS ALL PROFITS), mingle with artists and buyers, and keep the community fresh and alive!

How it works:
-Check for upcoming Saturday events and themes!
-Then submit your selected work to info.norfolksnyc@gmail.com
-Every week 50 artists will be selected to show one or two pieces of work. (If there is not enough space for all, we give you the following week.)
-Artists can choose to participate for four Saturdays or for one. By participating for the four Saturdays of the month, you get a chance to exhibit longer, rotate your pieces according to the theme, and meet more people.
-Press releases will go out all over NYC and around the web (Also invite friends, family, and contacts to share this with you if you are selected.)

-We ask all artists that have facebook, twitter, or another social network to use the event image until Monday, so if you haven't done this please do so. Also feel free to forward it to anyone you wish to come.
-Thursday or Fridays artists will come in to hang up pieces and meet each other.
-Saturday the doors will open to the public from 12pm- 9pm. Of course all artists will be here with their posse(However you do not need to be here full day. You can stay as long as you want to interact with buyers, press, public, and other artists and sell your works.)
-Pickup pieces (if not sold Saturday) will be that Saturday night after the event or sometime Sunday.
-If works are sold, all profits go to the artists!! The Gallery only asks for a required donation of $10 per piece. (This should be brought in on day of hanging prior to event.) Also, we are setting up our archives website, which will allow global purchasing of artworks. This gives all artists that participate the opportunity to have international sales and works permanently in our archives for all to see!

Requirements: -Choose 1 to 2 pieces and email to info.norfolksnyc@gmail.com a week before. (Latest we accept is Tuesday before the event.)
-All pieces must be 18”x24” or smaller
-Must be your interpretation of the theme
-Drop off piece Friday before event between 2pm-9pm
-Bring small required donation ($10 per piece) just so we can maintain the gallery.

We're excited to meet you all and collaborate! If you have any questions, please let the artist collective at NOR.FOLKS.NYC know.

Dear NOR.FOLKS.NYC artists, members, and lovers,

In the New Year, NOR.FOLKS.NYC will be transforming into a non-for profit and will be giving up our gallery/boutique location on Norfolk Street. Unfortunately, the crisis has hit us. So, in the next few months, we will be finding new approaches to support artists and exhibit their work during these difficult times and after. We will be joining several other non-for-profits around the world that also function as “artists for artists.” So, keep your eyes, ears, and minds open for our future renovations.

In the meantime, get ready for our last and final BASH at 139 Norfolk Street on February 26th: THE VIBRANT SOUTH, featuring paintings from an Englishman, James Vernon-Hunt, in the South of Spain. Join us for drinks, music, and a major CLEARANCE SALE (until February 28, 2010). These weeks will be the last to snatch our unique wearable and decorative artwork. So come and support the NOR.FOLKS.NYC community and its artists!
